Windows Server / Wintel Engineer -London Insurance Market Exp.

Wintel Engineer – London Insurance Market Experience – 3 months + – £400 per day

Specific technical experience of: Windows servers & storage.

And additionally, as many of the following as possible; replication, performance analysis, DB platforms, monitoring, alerting, patch deployment, security, active directory, OS’s, and virtualisation.

Responsibilities

  • Works together in close collaboration with the other teams with cross over on technologies, to augment areas of specialism, provide cover and additional resource as required on priority platform items.
  • Supervising the suppliers platform provision ensuring it is kept optimised, maintained and that it adheres to design, policy and SLA.
  • Tracking supplier progress reviews in specific technologies areas, including Capacity Management, patch deployment, OS life cycle, upgrades, storage health and performance.
  • Monitoring for platform issues and prioritising these or escalating appropriately to avoid service impact.
  • Production of regular management metrics and reports on the general platform estate and specific technologies areas.
  • Daily review of supplier platform heath reports for backup, archiving, replication etc.
  • Review and approval of operational acceptance for new deployments.
  • Defining operational best practice and driving our supplier meet these.
  • Act as a technical authority on platform technologies.
  • Collaboration with diverse internal and external technical teams across our global company.
  • Drive supplier continuous improvement to raise standards, minimise repetition and reduce cost.

Experience and qualifications

  • With a mix of skills that include an understanding of technical architectures, server and operations experience and broad general understanding of IT systems and servers.
  • five years plus of IT experience, including previous experience in a hands on support role.
  • Experience of working with multi-vendor outsourced offshore suppliers.
  • Specific technical experience of: Windows servers & storage. And additionally as many of the following as possible; replication, performance analysis, DB platforms, monitoring, alerting, patch deployment, security, active directory, OS’s, and virtualisation.
  • Demonstrable experience in working directly with outsourcers IT teams and in driving these to meet stated objectives.
  • Experience in producing regular management reports and status metrics.
  • Self-motivated, with keen attention to detail and excellent judgment skills
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated able to steer supplier technical direction, resolve conflict, and understands when to escalate.
  • Ability to communicate complex platform technologies issues and opportunities to non-technical audience with clarity and precision.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Able to establish collaborative working relationships within cross matrix organisation.
