Financial Controller

**Financial Controller – Thame, Oxfordshire – £45 – 50,000 per annum**

We are looking for someone who can assume responsibility for our client’s core Finance team, having day-to-day operational and line management accountabilities. This role is primarily a “line finance” role, but with excellent opportunities to add value through analysis and board-level interactions. The successful candidate will be capable of deputising for Group Financial Controller wherever necessary and will have the ambition and desire to take on broader parts of the group as it expands.

  • Assist the Group Financial Controller in meeting the information requirements of all internal and external stakeholders, including private equity investors and lending institutions.
  • Primary responsibility for all the routine operational responsibilities of the finance function, i.e. payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash management, management accounts preparation.
  • Lead in the design, and the consistent delivery, of high-quality management information, including KPI’s and explanatory commentary on monthly financial performance.
  • Ensure the small finance team is adequately supported and guided, and that the overall capability of the team is grown, keeping it fit-for-purpose as the business grows organically and by acquisition.
  • Primary responsibility for audit and tax compliance within the organisation, and any other statutory financial reporting requirements the business may have, you will be key to delivering a strong financial control environment for the company.

Key skills and qualifications:

  • Excellent academics
  • Qualified accountant – Would suit first role out of practice (will consider a passed finalist or someone coming the end of their studies
  • Previous demonstrable, practical experience as a Financial Controller with team leadership responsibilities
  • Exemplary Microsoft Excel skills – advanced practitioner
  • Experience of preparing board packs and KPI reporting
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, able to influence all levels of the organisation

  • Experience of preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Experience of supporting advisors in preparing corporation tax returns
  • Experience of a construction environment, or a long-term contract / job costing environment
  • Experience of using Access Dimensions and/or Access PeoplePlanner
