Distillery Operator

Distillery Operator – 12 months – £26.69 per hour (inside IR35) – full-time on-site in Menstrie, Scotland

**Please note, this role requires:**

  • working at the Leven Distillery, though some travel to other sites will also be required
  • Working out of office hours to cover shift work i.e night shifts
  • Covering 12 hour shifts – both day & night shift. Current shift frequency, when required, is 1 shift/week (Day 0700-1900, Night 1800 -0600)

Global Technical: Science and Technology (S&T) provides technical leadership for the companies Whisky, Spirits and Beer business globally. Within S&T, the Pilot Distillery team functions in the following areas:

  • Distilling centre of excellence, leading process development & transformation across distilling, driving efficiencies and process agility
  • Liquid Innovation, providing technical solutions to support and enable brand innovations
  • Sustainability, providing technical solutions in and around distilling to help achieve the the companies sustainability 2030 ambition
  • Quality improvement to address the fundamentals to enable flavour improvement and successful innovations. With special focus on yeast, fermentation, and maturation

This role sits within the Distilling team in Menstrie, led by the PCAF manager. The team brings together a wide range of complementary expertise and practical capability – including analytical chemistry and a multifunctional pilot distillery.

The Distillery operates both malt & grain distilling processes. The distillery team oversee the operation of the distillery equipment which includes a 25 Hectolitre brewhouse & both Pot & Column Stills.

The Pilot Distillery Operator will:

  • Support the technical role of the S&T team within the global supply business
  • Add value to the business and build the reputation of the S&T team as trusted technical partner
  • Support the delivery of R&D projects

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist the team in the operation of the Pilot Distillery facilities.
  • Hands on operation of technical plant equipment in the distillery and the analysis of process samples using laboratory skills/equipment
  • The distillery comprises of a mixture of both manual & automated control which allows for the flexible operation as required for the project work carried out

In addition to supporting the distillery team in the day-to-day activities, the operator will also:

  • Collaborate and liaise with other teams in the S&T department and in the Leven bottling site
  • Collate data produced by electronic recording systems and convert to easily presentable formats
  • Comply with accurate record keeping and document filing regulations for internal and legal purposes
  • Ensure high standard of housekeeping throughout plant and H&S compliance in all aspects of work
  • Assist in any other tasks as seen fit by the Distillery team

Skills:

  • Health and safety focus, awareness of risk in a production setting
  • Relevant operator experience or degree qualified ideally in a scientific area
  • Previous practical experience in plant or laboratory setting (desired)
  • Clear thinker and communicator with good analytical and planning skills
  • Full UK Driving licence

The role requires a technical and inquisitive nature but full training will be provided.
