The year was 1995. Blur and Oasis were battling it out in the charts, the Spice Girls were blasting their way into pop culture and Tony Blair was presiding over ‘Cool Britannia’. Back then, the Nokia 1011 was the height of mobile sophistication, social media wasn’t a thing and Google didn’t exist. And somewhere in the middle of it all, Damia Group was born.
Fast forward 30 years, and the world is almost unrecognisable. Technology has evolved at a breathtaking pace, transforming how we live, work and interact. But amid all the change, some things have stayed reassuringly consistent – like our commitment to people, partnerships and making work human.
Because let’s face it: 30 years in business, especially in tech and recruitment, is more like a loop-the-loop coaster rather than a gentle ride in the teacups. In that time, we’ve adapted, grown and stuck to our mission of helping people and businesses thrive.
People first
From day one, we set out to be different. Our aim was to be a partner that genuinely cared about the companies we worked with, the people we placed and the colleagues that made it all happen.
Along the way, we’ve launched the careers of thousands, helping fresh graduates find their footing and seen many of them rise to become senior leaders in tech, digital and beyond. Some of them are now our client partners. It’s a cycle of trust earned over decades.
It hasn’t always been easy, though. There was the dotcom bubble, the 2008 crash, Brexit, a global pandemic and AI continually changing the rules. Phew, that’s a lot!
Some things never change…
Over the years, plenty of buzzwords have come and gone. But what we call the Damia Difference remains refreshingly simple:
· With a deep knowledge of technology, we understand the complex needs of our partners
● We skip the corporate jargon to focus on what matters: connecting great people with great companies.
● We actually listen, taking time to understand what you really need, so we can help you fly.
● Through market highs and lows, including recessions, pandemics and tech shakeups, our success is rooted in long-term partnerships and mutual growth.
● We believe in good service, great delivery, and working with brilliant people. It’s what inspires us every day.
● Treating everyone with care and empathy is what matters, creating a space to grow careers and businesses alike.
…but other things change for the better
In 2020, we took our commitment to our team one step further by becoming an employee-owned company. The people who power Damia Group every day – the consultants, the account managers, the support team – now own a piece of what they build. It’s not just a job anymore, it’s personal.
Employee ownership isn’t just good for staff; it’s good for business. It encourages transparency, accountability and shared success. It means decisions aren’t made in ivory towers but around real conversations. And it shows in the way we treat our partners and talent.
Building the future
Today, we’re proud to work with everyone from agile startups to global enterprises, helping them build world-class teams in data, software development, cloud, AI and beyond.
But more than the tech, it’s always been about the people behind it. The coder who builds something revolutionary in their spare room; the architect rethinking infrastructure; the product manager chasing purpose as much as profit. We help connect that talent to the organisations who need them — and do it in a way that feels human.
Here’s to the future
So, 30 years on from those early days, what’s next? More growth and more brilliant people joining the journey, definitely. But more importantly, more listening, adapting and standing up for what we believe in, even when others aren’t.
We’re proud of what we’ve built, not just the wins and milestones but the careers launched and developed, the relationships nurtured and the trust that’s stood the test of time.
If the last three decades have taught us anything, it’s that real connection will always matter, no matter how fast the world moves and how quickly things change.
Happy big 3-0 to us. Here’s to keeping it real in the decades to come!
