Driving Agile Transformation
in the automotive industry
How Damia Group supported an automotive manufacturer to scale agile coaches
Client Challenge
A renowned British automotive company, known for its luxury vehicles, set out on an ambitious journey: to adopt agile methodologies across its operations. With innovation and efficiency critical to remaining competitive in the dynamic motor industry, the company needed the transformation to happen fast to respond to market demands.
The company chose a global consulting firm to lead the transformation. To achieve this highly ambitious goal, they required a large number of highly skilled agile coaches to be placed on site at the vehicle manufacturer’s UK headquarters. That’s where we came in.
Our Objectives
With a bold and time-sensitive brief we were asked to:
- Source and place over 100 agile coaches for this transformation initiative
- Deliver at speed without compromising on quality
- Ensure quality and fit — each agile coach had to possess the necessary skills and be a suitable cultural fit to drive the transformation effectively
- Prioritise agile coaches who had operated in the automotive sector and had experience in large scale transformations
Understanding Requirements
We began with in-depth consultations with the consultancy’s delivery team to understand the project’s scope and complexity. This wasn’t about ticking boxes. It was about truly getting under the skin of what success looked like for the company and how agile coaches would drive it.
Associates had to have not just the right level of technical fluency, but also be of the right experience level and show they had the motivation, characteristics and aptitude to ensure the project would be a resounding success.
We also worked to understand the client partner’s unique corporate culture and values to make sure every agile coach would integrate seamlessly into the in-house team.
Our Approach
Was this an ambitious mission? Yes
Did we believe we could do it? Absolutely.
Here’s how…
- Armed with clarity, we launched a multi-channel talent acquisition campaign that integrated LinkedIn, job boards, professional networks and our own extensive database of associates to identify the right talent for the project.
- We conducted a rigorous screening process involving initial interviews, technical assessments, and behavioural evaluations to ensure associates met the high standards required.
- By collaborating with the consultancy firm, we aligned the selection criteria with the interview approaches to ensure a good fit with the end client’s culture
- Through developing an onboarding programme in partnership with the consultancy, we facilitated a smooth transition for the new associates to immerse themselves into the client’s environment.
- The provision of continuous support we offered to the agile coaches post-placement allowed us to address any challenges and ensure they were fully integrated and productive.
Beating the clock,
no corners cut
Placing over 100 agile coaches for this ambitious transformation project wasn’t just about finding great people — it was about doing it at scale and speed.
The results:
- We successfully placed over 100 agile coaches within the stipulated timeline, meeting the consultancy’s requirements for this project.
- We maintained excellent relationships with the selected associates to ensure they were offered and accepted multiple extensions.
- The coaches were instrumental in driving the agile transformation, contributing to enhanced operational efficiency and innovation at the organisation.
The success of the project strengthened the partnership with the consultancy, opening avenues for future collaboration.
And for the end client? The introduction of agile methodologies led to improved project delivery times, increased flexibility in responding to market changes, and fostered a culture of continuous improvement within the organisation.
Why it worked
This was more than a talent solutions exercise — it was a partnership built on shared ambition and mutual trust. By embedding ourselves in the delivery process, understanding the ‘why’ behind the ‘what’, and drawing from a deep pool of specialist talent, we helped the consultancy firm deliver real, meaningful change within their client’s operation. The successful integration of these agile coaches not only facilitated the company’s transformation goals but also showcased the critical role of specialised talent in achieving organisational change.
